What happens when love and hate are intertwined? When pure love is faced with the temptation of money, fame and fortune, why suddenly turned into a naked betrayal and malicious revenge? Read Wuthering heights today and finally let me know.
He Heathcliff, but the unknown child brought back by the owner of the hill, but she Catherine earnshaw is the owner 's favorite little daughter. They are intimate, they are childhood friends. Should have been a good word, but fate is always in the most happy time, picked up the hammer knock down, the rest of the only sad and cold on the ground. He, after losing his favor, she married someone else, and his heart was so full of hatred that he could not help but wonder: why? Why happiness comes fast, go so fast? He did not hesitate to choose a temporary leave, choose revenge, choose hell. Three years later, he, with full of hatred, with full of wealth came back, he, revenge, but in the heart without a trace of revenge after frank, only full of sad and disappointed. When love and hate are intertwined, who knows the end?
Read the whole book, the heart has a kind of unspeakable depressive feeling, can not help but want to ask, what can destroy a most beautiful love? Money? Benefits? These are just superficial delays, the biggest killer is the vanity that was poisoned by feudal society at that time. Vanity is a terrible invisible enemy, it is everywhere, it quietly hidden in everyone 's heart. People subconsciously think that it is not terrible, ignore its existence, but the fact is very firmly tell us that it can not be ignored.
Like many famous, this story also happened in the 19th century, I found that people in that century, more or less has a very decadent feudal ideology and hierarchy, the period of marriage, mostly political marriage? In other words, how many lovers can become family members? At that time, who can say for sure, you can abandon fame and fortune for love?
In fact, in the feudal society, in front of fame and wealth, love is just a passing eye, but can be wanton waste of the same items, in this era, love and hate, is how sad thing, the end may already doomed, the end of the tragedy.
Wuthering Heights
Emily Bronte Wuthering Heights told a complicated love story among Catherine ,Heathcliff and Edgar. And of course they three were suffered from this a lot until their death. After reading this novel, I was shocked badly by the emotions of these characters through which our writer expressed a plenty of thoughts. Now I want to pick out two points of them to give voice to my own opinion.Firstly, why the Gypsies like Heathcliff were looked down upon by the other people.Secondly I would like to talk the selfishness of the love between Catherine and Heathcliff. When it comes to Gypsies, it will make us think of freedom, passion and magic ,in other words , it seems that the Gypsies possess the ability of reading the other people's minds. However, it is also the nation always coursed and insulted by the others. The reason for that was the Gypsies have been keeping migrating form their appearance.Even nowadays nobody can explain why they must do such things, which also made them surrounded by a mysterious air.Though the Gypsies is an independent nation, they have no motherland and many basic human rights.Just like Heathcliff in this novel who always been laughed at by the so called “superior ” people despite of his brightness and gentle looking.I maintained that the sense of shame was a most cause of his contortion and vengeance.Because of this self-abasement, Heathcliff did not dare to win the love of Catherine. Now let's shift our attention to the selfishness of the love between Heathcliff and Catherine. As a noble Miss ,Catherine thought she and Heathcliff were not well-matched for he was a poor and inferior farm boy thought they loved each other from childhood. One of the unbelievable reason gave by Catherine for her marriage with Edgar was she wanted to help Heathcliff by using her husband's money. And the other one was she could be the most important lady miles around by marrying Edgar. It was very clear that this kind of selfishness was the radical reason for their tragic endings. So was Heathcliff. He owed his failed marriage to Edgar and the others who ever turned up their noises at him.He cheated Isabella, sister of Edgar, and forced his son to marry Cathy ,daughter of Catherine and Edgar, in order to get Edgar's inheritance.I thought he never loved anyone except himself and Catherine.Maybe death was really a liberation for him to get himself out from the guilt and sorrows hidden in bottom of his heart.Luckily, after his death, Hareton and Cathy fell in love with each other and would live a happy life.Love is about giving not getting and Selfishness is what will ruin it.There was no doubt that Wuthering Heights was a thorough tragedy if we read it from this point.
Many people in the world are trying to find a perfect companion. Some of these may marry and not know what their new husband or wife is like. This kind of situation often leads to separation or hostility. Other situations may develop between two friends that stem from jealousy, desire for revenge, uncaring parents, etc. Emily Bront's Wuthering Heights displays several characteristics of destructive relationships. Three of these are uncaring parents, marriage without knowing the person, and jealousy.
Uncaring or unsympathizing parents are shown throughout this story to be an element of destructive relationships. Because Heathcliff gained all the attention from Mr. Earnshaw, Hindley became disassociated from his father. This separation continued until after Mr. Earnshaw had died.Another example is between Hindley and Hareton. Hindley became such a drunk and a gambler that he could not properly care for young Hareton. This led to a separation between Hareton and his father as well. One primary example of an uncaring parent is shown between Heathcliff and his son Linton.Heathcliff did not even want his son for anything except enacting a part of his revenge. This is shown by Linton's fear of Heathcliff and Heathcliff's enmity toward his son. Linton even says "... my father threatened me, and I dread him - I dread him!"(244) to express his feeling about Heathcliff. The hostility and separation between father and son in this book shows that uncaring parents can cause serious damage in relationships with their children.
This element of destructive behavior may stem from an unhappy marriage in which the husbands or wives don't know each other. This had happened between Isabella and Heathcliff. Isabella did not really know Heathcliff when she married him, but after she had married him she saw that Heathcliff was not a gentleman at all. To declare her feelings she wrote "Is Heathcliff a man? If so, is he mad? And if not, is he a devil? I shan't tell my reasons for making this inquiry; but I beseech you to explain, if you can, what I have married ..."(125). Another example of this is when Catherine married Edgar Linton. Although she had been happy at the beginning of the marriage, she thought having parties all the time was going to be fun. Yet, after a while, she became bored. She also realized that she loved Heathcliff more than Edgar and would always love Heathcliff. This enlightenment created separation between Edgar and Catherine during the final hours of Cathy's life. An additional marriage which was made that was doomed was the one between Catherine and Linton. Because this was a forced marriage, Cathy had not yet learned all she could about Linton.Because she did not know until after the marriage that Linton was selfish and inconsiderate, she became distressed and grew isolated in the house. These three failed marriages described in this novel show that knowing the person you will marry is very important. While these marriages took place, jealousy also took a hold in some relationships. One example of this is when Mr. Earnshaw starts to favor Heathcliff over his own son, Hindley. Because of this, Hindley becomes jealous of young Heathcliff and sets out to make Heathcliff's life a nightmare. Hindley's jealousy becomes evident when he says ,"... be damned you beggarly interloper! and wheedle my father out of all he has; only afterwards show him what you are, imp of Satan."(35). Jealousy was also found very notably in the relationship between Heathcliff and Edgar Linton.
The jealousy between them is expressed when Heathcliff and Edgar start a hostile conversation after Cathy's homecoming at Christmas near the beginning of the book. As the story progresses these two become bitter enemies who will not speak to one another. Another relationship which jealousy ruined is the one between Hareton and Linton. These two become jealous of each other over Cathy's affections. This relationship ends as Hareton and Linton hating each other. These relationships show that jealousy can ruin a relationship very quickly.
The jealousy, neglect, and unprepared nature of the many relationships in this book indicates that many of the relationships in this book have gone "sour". In spite of all these destructive elements one relationship may succeed. This is the one between Cathy and Hareton.
